I’m a busy mom. Back in 2007, I read an article by The Pioneer Woman titled I wanna marry my Keurig coffee maker. When she said “it makes my mornings begin more smoothly, eliminates that annoying coffee pot cleaning nonsense, and promotes world peace”, I was sold! Who wouldn’t want that?
I asked my friends if they had a Keurig. I received a resounding “NO!” They had never heard of Keurig until I asked and showed them the article.
It has been seven years since I bought my first Keurig – that revolutionary machine! The Keurig machine has been my go-to coffee maker every morning at 6:30 a.m. and every afternoon at 3 p.m. I like the convenience of using the Keurig single cup coffee maker.
The Pioneer Woman’s blog inspired me to try Keurig. Recently, I got inspired again – to create home coffee bars with the things I already had at home. This time, the inspiration came from Pinterest.
Want to create an easy coffee corner in your kitchen or anywhere in your home?
1. Here’s what I have in my home coffee bar for the kitchen
A wrought iron console table with two shelves. On top of the table are:
- Keurig K40 Elite Brewing System. I would love to have the rhubarb-colored Keurig K40 soon.
- Black and Decker 12-cup programmable coffee maker, only $33 on Amazon.
- Zojirushi Water Boiler & Warmer for hot chocolate and tea (for the kids and for friends who are tea drinkers).
- Ceramic coffee canister.
- Three tier rectangular dessert stand which I use for putting small canisters and sugar bowls.
- A mini chalkboard.
- A table lamp for ambience in the evening.
- Of course, reusable filter cup and paper filters.
Both shelves on the console table are decorated with teapots, extra mugs, and decorative boxes.
You can be creative with the walls too. On my wall, I have
- Two wall shelves with beautiful metal borders from Kohls. I paid $20 for each.
- A few S hooks from a thrift shop. You can get similar S hooks in a pack of 10 from Amazon for $12.
- Six mugs.
- Three canisters.
- Candles.
- Some personal favorite decorating pieces.
- A chalkboard to write inspirational quotes for the week.
My home coffee bar doesn’t take too much time to create. The few things I bought to create this little corner are the S hooks, wall shelves, and the chalkboard on the wall shelf. The total price was around $50. This simple addition in my kitchen makes me happy every day.
2. Here’s how a home office coffee bar looks like
Besides holding books and knick knacks, bookcases can be used as coffee bars too. I have four light turquoise colored bookcases from Ikea in my home office. These bookcases are placed together on one wall in the room. I cleared a few shelves and placed the following necessities to create a simple home office coffee bar, amongst the books and folders:
- A 6-cup Moka pot
- A conical burr grinder so I don’t have to manually grind the coffee when needed (save time)
- Freshly roasted beans
- Coffee beans from Ecuador (gifts)
- An 8-cup Bodum French press coffee maker
- A shelf sitter sign that reads “Coffee and Friends a Perfect Blend”
- 3 mugs of various sizes
- A Bodum stainless steel 16-oz travel French press coffee maker/mug
- A plastic filter cone one cup brewer
- A 12-oz stainless steel Turkish coffee decanter
- Coffee filter for the plastic filter cone inside the tin can (with the word “coffee”)
Not shown here is a Hamilton Beach Stainless Steel Electric Kettle. The Moka pot and the Turkish coffee decanter are for decoration purposes only. I think these two items are more suitable for the kitchen.
I didn’t spend any money (no extra money required) to create this home coffee bar in my home office. If you want it fancier, you may want to get pretty cups and saucers and canisters.
3. Home coffee cart for the living room
For afternoon coffee and when a friend comes over for coffee, I roll out my home coffee cart. This multi-functional three-tier cart from Ikea is only $39.99. When in Ikea look for teh Raskog cart. I change the items in the cart all the time. It depends on the mood and time of the day.
On this cart, I have:
- The good ole Bodum French press
- Hario manual coffee grinder
- Coffee beans
- A bouquet of flowers
- 4 mugs
- Cookies including Scottish shortbread
- Dulce de leche spread from Argentina with a spreader from Brazil
- Sugar (for friends who like coffee with sugar)
- Half and half
- Spoons
- Napkins
- 2 bars of chocolates
Cookies and chocolates are just as important as the coffee here. I think it is not practical to place a Keurig or a kettle on the cart since this is not a large cart. It would be overcrowded. Instead of a French press, you can replace it with a Farberware classic stainless steel 8-cup percolator or glass carafe (with the freshly brewed coffee of course) from your programmable coffee maker. Remember to place a trivet at the bottom of the percolator and glass carafe.
This coffee cart cost $45 including tax from Ikea.
So, if you don’t have an area at home to create a coffee bar, no worries, you can always use a bookcase or a simple cart with wheels.
I hope you are inspired to create your own home coffee bar. If you have created one, please share with us. Thank you. We look forward to hearing from you.
