Let us be honest. At times, spending quality time with young kids can be stressful when you’re already worn out doing chores at home or facing deadlines at work.

Who has time to relax? And play? According to a report by AAP News and Journals
Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. Despite the benefits derived from play for both children and parents, time for free play has been markedly reduced for some children.
Despite many benefits of play time, the article continued to list the reasons behind reduced play time between kids and parents:
- Hurried lifestyle
- Changes in family structure
- Time devoted to academics instead of play time
- Time devoted to enrichment activities instead of play time
As a parent of two young children ages two and five, I find it essential to search for high-quality education toys. It doesn’t matter if the toy is purchased or a homemade cardboard toy. To me, a toy for my kids has to be safe.
Being a coffee lover, well more like a coffee geek, I like looking for toys that are coffee related. I make coffee twice a day, and both my kids love watching me and imitating my every single move. They volunteer to help because they want to ‘play’ with all the gadgets. They play with my coffee machine, coffee grinder, spoons, pitcher, even coffee beans!
When I saw Learning Resource’s New Sprouts Brew It! toy set, I was sold.
Here is my review of Brew It! by Learning Resource
The set has 14 pieces – a carafe with removable lid, a to-go cup with removable lid, two mugs, a creamer and a sugar holder, a plate, two spoons, a doughnut, a cupcake, and a cinnamon roll. These pieces were easy to remove from the manufacturer packaging. The vibrant colored baked goods are quite realistic and “delicious.” The utensils are attractive, and the kids were expressing their love of the purple and orange dishes the instant I opened the package.
The carafe measures six inches in height. All the pieces are made of soft and durable plastic. They are well-made, and the rubber feet on the carafe and mugs help dampen unnecessary noise especially if you have kids who love banging cups and bowls on surfaces.
It is easy to clean. Just use soap and water after use, like your typical dishes. I wouldn’t recommend putting these pieces in the dishwasher.
Major pluses:
- Durable
- Colorful and attractive
- Made of high-quality soft plastic
- Easy to clean
- Not breakable
- Multiple ways to play with the toys and kids won’t get bored easily
Drawbacks
• It comes with only one plate and cannot be shared with multiple kids, causing unnecessary fights over a plate.
• Strong plastic smell. To solve this problem, I washed the pieces and air-dried them.
Verdict
My children enjoyed playing with Brew It! This is a good set of add-on toy to your existing sets of kitchen toys. And can be played alone too. I highly recommend Brew It to children over two years.
Now, I can enjoy making coffee using my brewing gadgets while they get to play with their own.
