I feel like holiday music can start playing in stores and decorative red and green lights can be hung outside homes once Starbucks rolls out their annual holiday drinks.

It might be slightly too early (they usually reappear on the menu in mid November), but I’m not complaining.

Thing is, you can also make their drinks all year round at home, thanks to our copycat recipes.

And one of the loved holiday drinks that we’re recreating here is the Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha

We’ll brew espresso, combine it white chocolate sauce and peppermint syrup and milk and top the drink with a generous dose of whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate on top. Yum!

What is in a Starbucks Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha?

Starbucks lists the ingredients of the Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha in this order: Milk, White Chocolate Mocha Sauce, Brewed Espresso, Peppermint Syrup, Whipped Cream, Vanilla Syrup and Dark Chocolate Curls.

The white chocolate sauce and peppermint syrup are combined with rich espresso and steamed milk. Then topped with sweet whipped cream and dark chocolate curls

Here’s what you’ll need to make yours at home:

Tips for Making Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha

Espresso

I used a moka pot to brew espresso.

You technically need an espresso machine to make espresso, but the closest you can get to the concentrated coffee without the machine is by using a stove top moka pot.

It’s very simple to use. Just add water into the bottom chamber, place the basket containing finely ground coffee inside, screw on the top chamber and set it on top of the stove on low heat.

Once you hear a gurgling noise and see the coffee start to rise, turn off the heat and you have freshly brewed coffee!

If you don’t have an espresso machine or moka pot at home, check out our guide to making espresso at home without an espresso machine. The goal is to brew a concentrated coffee so you can taste it through all the flavors this drink contains.

White Chocolate Sauce

I used Torani White Chocolate Sauce.

The Torani line of sauces is what I use for most of my coffee drink recipes. They easily mix into hot or cold drinks and can also serve as toppings to drizzle on top of the drink or even on ice cream and other desserts.

Mint Syrup

I made my own mint simple syrup at home.

There are store bought versions, like this Monin Mint Syrup that you can get easily on Amazon. But it’s also just as easy to make it at home, if you have the ingredients on hand.

Here’s how (yields 1 cup of mint syrup that you can store and use for other drinks too!):

  1. Place 1 cup of fresh mint leaves, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of white granulated sugar in a pot.
  2. Put it on the stove on medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Leave the mint leaves in the syrup. Wait until the syrup cools.
  4. Once completely cooled, drain the syrup into a mason jar to store.

That’s it! You have mint syrup to use for minty coffee drinks and also cocktails.

Toppings

I used store bought whipped cream and mini dark chocolate chips.

Starbucks uses their signature sweet whipped cream and dark chocolate curls.

The store bought whipped creams are usually sweet, but if you choose to make your own whipped cream at home using heavy cream, add a teaspoon of vanilla syrup to make it sweet like the Starbucks version.

You can also replace the dark chocolate curls with mini dark chocolate chips like I did.

Glass Rim

Also for fun (since most of the coffee drinks we publish here end up looking very similar!) I added some red sanding sprinkles on the rim of the glass.

If you’d also like to do this as a way to present your drink, I used a spatula and spread white chocolate sauce onto the rim of the glass. Then I stuck red sanding sprinkles onto the white chocolate sauce.

Completely optional, and not something Starbucks does, but just thought it’d be a fun, festive touch!
