What is an orange creamsicle?
An orange creamsicle is a popsicle made with vanilla ice cream and coated in a layer of frozen orange flavoring.
Creamsicle is trademarked and belongs to the Popsicle brand, who are the creators of the first popsicle in 1905. Orange was the original creamsicle flavor but today you can find other flavors like raspberry and blueberry.
An orange creamsicle is a classic summer treat and creamsicle day appropriately falls in the middle of summer.
To bring this flavor into a cup of cold brew coffee, I mixed together the creaminess of half and half and added a generous amount of vanilla syrup to mimic the vanilla ice cream.
Then I added a drop of orange dietary essential oil to give it its subtle orangey flavor.
How to make cold brew coffee
Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee in water for at least 12 hours.
The difference between cold brew coffee and iced coffee is that cold brew coffee is never heated. Meanwhile, iced coffee is made by simply adding ice to a cup of coffee made with hot water using any method, like a Keurig or pour over Chemex.
You don’t need any fancy equipment to make cold brew coffee. It’s very simple to make. If you have a French press, mason jar, Primula cold brew coffee maker or even an empty pasta jar, you can make cold brew coffee. Read our guide for the steps here.
Once you have the cold brew coffee concentrate ready, you can continue to make the orange flavor.
Orange Creamsicle Cold Brew Coffee Ingredients
- ¾ cup cold brew coffee concentrate
- 4-5 ice cubes
- ¼ cup half and half
- 1 drop orange (or tangerine) essential oil

- Orange slices
Cold brew coffee: Read 3 ways to make cold brew coffee concentrate here.
Ice cubes: Use regular ice cubes, or make coffee ice cubes.
Half and half: I used half and half for its creaminess, but you can also use whole milk or any milk alternative.
Orange essential oil: I use dietary essential oils from Young Living. These oils are made to flavor food or as dietary supplements. (We similarly made our Lavender Latte with the lavender essential oil.) The oil is made from cold pressed orange rinds.
If you don’t have this essential oil, you can also get an orange flavor from Torani’s orange syrup, which is made with pure cane sugar and citric acid.
Vanilla syrup: For the vanilla syrup, you can use a store bought vanilla syrup (check out the best coffee syrup brands here.) Or you can also make your own simple vanilla syrup at home by dissolving sugar in water over a stovetop and adding in vanilla extract. Find out how to make it here.
