How to Make a Lavender Latte with Lavender Essential Oil

You’ve heard of flavoring coffee with flavors such as hazelnut, mint, cinnamon, and vanilla.

But have you tried flavoring your coffee with lavender essential oil yet?

Lavender lattes are one of the beverages that I have been aiming to create for a long time. Reason being a latte is comforting by itself, but if you make it with lavender, you’ll have the added soothing and calming benefits all in one.

Plus lavender also locks in the coffee flavor without overpowering it.

What are some more benefits of lavender?

Instead of using lavender syrup, this lavender latte uses a 100% pure, therapeutic grade lavender essential oil to set off a traditional latte. Here’s how to make it.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Brew 2 ounces of espresso.

If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, you can make a strong coffee using other brewing methods, like with a Moka pot, French press or Aeropress. You’ll get equally delicious espresso using these methods.

Additional information on how to use a Moka pot, French press and Aeropress are available here:

Step 2

Add 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil into cold milk.

Step 3

Purge the steam wand. Purging ensures all excess water is released from the steam wand.

Step 4

Start steaming the milk and let it roll.

If you don’t have a steam wand, use a handheld milk frother or even a mason jar. Read how to make latte art without expensive coffee gear. In the article, I demonstrate how to use a mason jar (or an empty pasta sauce jar), French press or a handheld milk frother to froth warm milk.

Pro tip: Always use whole milk and heat it up to approximately 150°F. It is great to have a food thermometer handy to monitor the desired temperature.

Step 5

Pour the steamed milk into the espresso.

Step 6

Top with a sprinkle of lavender flowers for decor.

Your lavender latte is ready! Enjoy.
