Keurig K40/K45 Elite Brewing System Review

There are around 121 million households in the US and according to Market Watch, 20 million households own Keurig coffee machines. Are you one of them?

Today, we are reviewing Keurig K40 Elite Brewing System, an older version of the Keurig machines. Keurig has a newer design called the K45 Elite Brewing System. The biggest difference between the two is that the K45 has 3 brewing size selections – small cup (about 6 oz), small mug (about 8 oz) and large mug (about 10 oz).

You can find the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System here on Amazon.com.

First, let’s take a look at the features of a K40 as shown by Keurig:

To use:

  1. Add filtered water to the removable water reservoir. It holds 48 oz of water, which makes about 10 cups of coffee. The red heating light shows that the water has not been heated and is not yet ready for brewing.
  2. Drop the K-cup coffee of your choice into to the K-Cup Pack Assembly Housing (I) as shown on the illustration above. We recommend trying the 40-count K-Cup sampler so you can try the flavors then choose your favorite.

  1. Lower the handle and close it completely (E).
  2. Place your mug on the Drip Tray Plate.

  1. Once the handle is closed, the lights will blink. You have a choice of making 6 oz, 8 oz or 10 oz of coffee.
  2. Choose the size and push the button. The button you push will remain illuminated while brewing.
  3. It takes about 60 seconds (1 minute) to brew one mug of coffee.

  1. After 1 minute, your coffee will be brewed. Lift the handle and remove the used K-cup pack.

What we like about Keurig K40:

  1. Brews a decent cup of coffee in a short amount of time (one minute)
  2. Very convenient
  3. Durable. This machine has been used daily for over 2 years and we haven’t had any problems.
  4. Inexpensive. Around $100 per unit.
  5. It comes in many colors, including pink

Things we don’t like about this machine:

  1. Not much, you only taste one type of coffee. If you want strong espresso, you will need to use a Moka pot.
  2. Wish we had gotten one in a shade of pink like this rhubarb colored K45 brewer shown below!!
