Imagine sitting in traffic during a road trip and needing to go to the restroom. Worst yet, not being able to find a single rest stop or gas station.
Have you ever had one of those experiences?
We have, quite a number of times.
If you’re like most coffee drinkers going on a road trip, chances are, your top priority is to pack a large home brewed coffee to go. Or to stop at your neighborhood Starbucks or McCafe and quickly grab a large cup of coffee to go before hitting the road. Coffee fuels us and helps us stay awake. However, there is a problem – the 20 fl oz. of liquid and caffeine will make you need to take some restroom breaks.
How do you solve this problem when you need caffeine boost while on a road trip?
Chew Java Gum, the caffeinated energy-to-go gum!
Recently we took a 3 1/2 hour road trip to the Windham Mountain Resort and chewed on Java gum instead of drinking coffee. Our trip required us to cross the busy George Washington Bridge in New York City. We forewent our beloved morning cup of joe for a piece of spearmint flavored Java Gum. On this trip, we didn’t need to rush to the restroom because we did not have our morning coffee until we arrived at the destination. Our caffeine boost came from the Java gum.
What is Java gum?
Java gum is caffeinated sugar-free and gluten-free gum. According to Java Gum, the Java Gum concept is not new, because the U.S. Military had a similar product 30 years ago. Each piece of gum has 65 mg of caffeine, equivalent to a 10 oz cup of coffee.
It comes in peppermint and spearmint flavors. Here are some of the ingredients listed in the package: gum base, sorbitol, caffeine (65 mg per piece), natural and artificial flavors, calcium stearate, aspartame, acesulfame potassium and sucralose.
Some of the warnings found on the package:
- don’t chew more than 2 pieces every 4 hours
- limit use to avoid nervousness, sleeplessness and occasional rapid heartbeat
- do not consume Java gum with alcohol
- do not chew if you are pregnant, nursing, under the age of 12 or been advised to limit caffeine consumption
What we think about Java Gum
- gives us the caffeine boost without drinking coffee while on a road trips
- we prefer coffee over Java Gum
- Java Gum is caffeinated gum, not coffee flavored gum
- we are natural health nerds, which means we try to avoid artificial ingredients like sorbitol and aspartame (they are found in all sugar-free gums including Java Gum)
- the Java gum flavor is not for everyone
