Here’s the list if you just want to pick one here (links to purchase on Amazon):
- Douwe Egberts Pure Gold Instant Coffee
- Starbucks VIA Pike Place
- Mount Hagen Organic Instant Coffee
- Cafe Buen Dia by Juan Valdez
- Nescafe Clasico
- Cafe Bustelo
These will all work to make instant iced coffee.
I mention this a lot, but Nescafe Clasico is my favorite.
It’s a dark roast instant coffee with a bold flavor. It’s great on its own, like for instant iced coffee. But it also works really well when I want to give my favorite desserts a coffee flavor. (Check out my coffee chocolate chip cookies and coffee mousse!)
Does instant coffee dissolve in cold water?
Instant coffee is so convenient that you don’t even need to boil water. It will dissolve in cold and room temperature water.
Does instant coffee dissolve in milk?
Yes, instant coffee will also dissolve in milk. You’ll have to put in a little more effort to make sure the granules dissolve completely, but it will dissolve.
When I make coffee flavored panna cotta or mousse, I put it right into the mixtures of sugar and milk and it dissolves.
I will usually dissolve it in a very small amount of water for better consistency in the desserts, but if you’re just drinking it to make iced coffee, you can just put it straight into the milk.
Instant Iced Coffee Ingredients
- 2 tsp instant coffee (I used Nescafe Clasico)
- 1 cup water
- Ice cubes
- Optional: chocolate sauce, vanilla syrup, coffee creamer to taste
- Optional: Whipped cream, cinnamon, cocoa powder
Tips for Making Instant Iced Coffee
Instant coffee to Water Ratio
Most instant coffee packaging will have a recommended instant coffee to water ratio. You can follow that. Or if you prefer a stronger coffee, you can always add more.
- Most packaging ratio = 1 teaspoon instant coffee to 6 ounces water
- My preferred ratio = 2 teaspoon instant coffee to 8 ounces (1 cup) water
Adjust based on how strong you prefer your coffee.
Iced Coffee Sweetener Ideas
Adding any sweetener to your instant iced coffee is completely optional. So if you prefer your iced coffee black, you can skip the sweeteners.
But there are endless options if you want to change it up from time to time.
Here’s a list of ideas:
- Coffee syrups (my favorites are from Monin)
- Sauces (chocolate, caramel, white chocolate, sea salt caramel)
- Coffee creamers (all sorts of flavors and dairy free options too)
For coffee syrups, you can make your own at home.
Just put equal amounts of water and granulated sugar over the stove top on medium heat and turn off the heat when the sugar dissolves.
If you want to add flavors, like a cinnamon flavored syrup, add in a stick of cinnamon. Or for a vanilla flavor, add vanilla extract. You can store this in the refrigerator in a mason jar.
Iced Coffee Topping Ideas
If you really want to customize your iced coffee and make it an extra special treat, add some toppings.
Start with a layer of whipped cream and top it with cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, chocolate chips or a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce.
When I made this instant iced coffee in the images, I used a cinnamon sugar topping, which I also use to make a Cinnamon Dolce Latte Starbucks copycat.
To make the cinnamon sugar, simply mix equal amounts of ground cinnamon to granulated sugar. That’s your topping.
Ice Cubes
I used regular water based ice cubes. But, I also will use coffee ice cubes. This is a coffee ‘hack’ that will change the way you drink iced coffee.
Usually while drinking iced coffee, the ice starts to melt, resulting in your coffee slowly diluting. To resolve this, coffee ice cubes will do the trick. When they melt, it just adds more coffee to your cup.
If you prefer, you can also sweeten the ice cubes so you don’t even have to add any sweeteners to your instant iced coffee. You can make this iced coffee even faster. Try adding in some coffee syrups or sweetened condensed milk.
