For a blend of spicy and sweet, this Iced Mexican Mocha is the coffee drink for you.
To make it, we’ll make a flavored espresso by simply mixing ground cinnamon and chili powder with your coffee beans before brewing. This is a way to get the taste of cinnamon and chili without having clumps of the spices floating around your coffee.
Then, we’ll add my favorite chocolate sauce to bring this iced coffee together.
Oh and I also added a little color to this just for fun by sticking red sprinkles on the rim of the glass. Feel free to do the same!
Iced Mexican Mocha Ingredients
- ¼ cup espresso
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch chili powder
- 1 tbsp chocolate sauce
- 1 cup milk
- Ice
- Optional: Whipped cream, cocoa powder, red sprinkles
Tips for Making Iced Mexican Mocha
Espresso
I used a moka pot to brew espresso.
Use your preferred method to make espresso. Making espresso does require an espresso machine, but there are ways to make a concentrated, espresso like coffee. The moka pot is one of these brewing methods.
Check out our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine so you can make this recipe without an fancy machine.
Ground Cinnamon
I used ground cinnamon from my local Trader Joe’s. Feel free to adjust the amount of cinnamon if you prefer a more cinnamon taste to your coffee versus spiciness.
You can also find ground cinnamon on Amazon here.
Chili Powder
Similarly, I used chili powder from my local Trader Joe’s. And again similarly, if you prefer your coffee slightly more spicy, add a little more chili powder. (Keep in mind, a little does go a long way.)

Chocolate Sauce
I use Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce.
This is the brand I use for most of my coffee recipes as it is great for mixing with both hot or cold drinks.
Plus, it’s versatile and you can put this on desserts, or even as an extra treat to drizzle on our mocha pancakes. (Check out the recipe!)
Milk
Feel free to use your preferred milk of choice. I used oat milk but you can use skim milk, whole milk or any other plant based milk alternatives.
Ice
While I used regular water based ice cubes, if it’s a really hot day and you don’t want to have watered down coffee, I recommend using coffee ice cubes.
All this is is a simple hack. Instead of freezing water in ice cube trays, freeze coffee! This results in coffee ice cubes so when you add this to your coffee and it melts, you just get more coffee.
Optional Decor and Toppings
Just for fun, I added red sprinkles to the side of my glass. To do this, use either chocolate sauce or Nutella and spread it on the rim of a glass. Use this as glue and stick red sprinkles, or your favorite colorful sprinkles.
I also used whipped cream and a dash of cocoa powder to top the iced mocha.
