5 Best French Press Coffee Travel Mugs

We’re recommending these French press coffee travel mugs that we’ve used for years.

We get it! There are a bazillion coffee travel mugs out there, so how did we come up with a list of just five? After almost two years of testing, we believe we have what it takes to recommend the best product.

Make a small investment and make the best coffee with one of these French press coffee travel mugs:

  1. Presse by bobble
  2. ZYLISS Travel French Press
  3. Bodum Insulated Travel French Press
  4. GSI Outdoors Commuter JavaPress
  5. Stanley Classic Vacuum Travel Press Mug

See details of each below.

1. Presse by bobble

Just brew, press, and go! That’s it.

Owning a 2-in-1 coffee press and travel mug will change the way you look at brewing single serve coffee. This simple coffee accessory by bobble helps you save time and cut waste. Before owning one, we had no idea brewing coffee could be this easy for commuters, travelers or anyone on the go. In fact, we use the Presse by bobble at home too and no longer use the regular Bodum French Press when brewing just for one serving.

When you find yourself using the Presse by bobble French press travel mug more often than the normal coffee machine at home, you know you have a winning coffee maker. That was our experience. Presse is one of the best in this list for home use and travel because it brews 13 oz. of coffee, which is enough for a morning cup. Making coffee takes as little as four minutes. The Presse is also easy to clean and is now available in multiple colors like a teal blue, copper, red, grey and white.

2. ZYLISS Travel French Press

ZYLISS mug, plunger, and lid

Designed by award-winning designer Sebastian Conran and made by Zyliss, a 50-year-old Swiss kitchen gadget and tool company, the ZYLISS travel coffee mug looks like a regular cup and is made to last. It’s the only one in this list that comes with a handle. It has the smallest capacity and is also the cheapest among the five mugs listed here, that doesn’t mean it is inferior. It has a double wall and stays cool to the touch.

The ZYLISS travel French Press is a 2-in-1 travel coffee mug that is so easy to use. It takes us only three minutes and is our go to coffee maker when we want a small dose of coffee in the afternoon. It’s not totally leak proof, so it’s not the most ideal to carry when commuting to work. We prefer to pack it with us when we travel and to use it at the destination.

3. Bodum Insulated French Press

The name Bodum is synonymous with French presses. The Bodum Insulated Travel French Press Coffee Mug works the same way as a traditional French press does, but with one extra and important feature: it is also a mug. No need to purchase an expensive coffee maker and a separate commuter mug to brew a to-go cup of coffee.

The Bodum Insulated French Press is our go-to travel mug when we are on road trips or commuting to the city. It keeps the coffee hot for at least three hours, even on snowy days. Best of all it is spill-proof. The downside is, you can’t drink the coffee immediately because the Bodum is well insulated and keeps the coffee hot. So if you can’t drink coffee at 195ºF – you’ll have to wait for it to cool down. That’s a good problem when you’re on road trips. Imagine having your coffee still hot, even after two hours of driving!

4. GSI Outdoors Commuter JavaPress

GSI Outdoors Commuter Javapress

The GSI Outdoors Commuter JavaPress is in our opinion the best looking one on this list. It is uniquely designed with an insulating sleeve that comes in five colors – blue, graphite, red, green and orange. It works the same as Presse by bobble and is the same size too.

5. Stanley Classic Vacuum Steel Travel French Press

Does a green steel bottle made by Stanley remind you of grandpa or your dad? Your grandparents probably still have one in their attic or basement. The Stanley’s classic green thermos has been the go-to vacuum flask for camping, RVing and road trips since 1913. Their motto is “built for life.” The thermos and coffee travel mugs are made of 18/8 stainless steel that won’t rust and is BPA-free like the other listed here.

The Stanley French Press is easy to use, leak proof, easy to clean and durable. Most of all, you can use it to store hot water like a thermos too. Stanley is our go to coffee travel mug for road trips and camping. It is slightly heavier than the others listed here but does an excellent job in keeping the coffee hot and is spill proof.

KOHIPRESS Portable French Press Coffee Maker Travel Mug

To use the KOHIPRESS French press travel mug, remove the plunger, add 2 tablespoons of ground coffee in the chamber, pour 195-203 degrees Fahrenheit water to the chamber and stir it with the long handle spoon (comes with the product). Let it sit for 5 minutes and insert plunger into the chamber. Your coffee is ready. Put on the lid tightly, and you’re ready to head out.

If you’re looking for a travel French press that is extremely easy to pack in your bag, made of stainless steel, vacuum insulated, leak-proof and easy to use, go for KOHIPRESS’ 12 oz, all-in-one brewer, and insulated travel mug. For me, it’s a winner in the French press travel mug category for design, portability, and leak-proof.

If you’re looking for a compact and small coffee travel French press, the Espro holds the least amount of coffee on this list at 10 ounces. It’s a vacuum-insulated stainless steel container with a double micro-filter.
