I start seeing eggnog reappear on the shelves of my local grocery store sometime in mid November.

While you can attempt to make your own eggnog at home so you can have it all year long, I feel that it makes the drink extra special when only consumed during certain months of the year.

So this eggnog latte is a special coffee drink that I make only once or twice at the end of November and throughout December.

What is eggnog?

Eggnog is a drink made with eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, spices and alcohol, usually rum or bourbon. The result is a very sweet, slightly thick and delicious drink that reminds me of the holidays.

Nowadays, you may also be able to find non dairy versions of eggnog, so it can be consumed by everyone.

While you can make it at home, I used store bought eggnog for this eggnog latte recipe.

I chose Hood, which is a dairy company founded over 150 years ago in 1856. Other than eggnog, they are known for their milk, sour cream, ice cream and other dairy products.

The Golden Eggnog is a secret recipe from Hood, which is slightly yellow due to the sugared yolks, plus extra creamy milk and spices. You can drink straight out of the carton. Or to make eggnog lattes.

Also, if you’d like to change it up, you can also use different eggnog flavors. For example, Hood also has vanilla and pumpkin flavored eggnog. And also a light version, which contains less fat.

What is the Eggnog Latte at Starbucks?

Our eggnog latte is another Starbucks inspired recipe that we’re recreating.

It’s one of the holiday beverages, along with the Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha and other seasonal drinks that fans patiently wait to return to the Starbucks menu.

Starbucks lists the ingredients in their eggnog latte as eggnog (which varies by region), milk, brewed espresso and nutmeg. It’s a very simple recipe with minimal ingredients.

We’ll simply brew espresso, combine it with steamed eggnog and top it with a dash of nutmeg.

Is there caffeine in Starbucks Eggnog Latte?

Yes, there is caffeine in a Starbucks eggnog latte, since it contains espresso.

Tips for Making an Eggnog Latte

Espresso

I used a stove top moka pot to brew espresso. This is my go to method for making espresso.

If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, the moka pot is the next best option to making a concentrated coffee. Other options include a French press or Aeropress if you have either of these brewing tools at home.

Check out our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine to make coffee for this eggnog latte and our other latte recipes that require espresso.

Eggnog

I used Golden Eggnog from Hood.

You can attempt to make it yourself if you have a favorite recipe, but I just found it easier to purchase it.

If you’re worried about the fat content, Hood also has a light eggnog version, which contains less fat. Or if you want a non dairy option, some brands including Silk, have a non dairy version.

And if you’d like to change it up from time to time as you make this recipe during the holidays, you can also make this eggnog latte using different flavored eggnog.
