Coffee Tastes Better When Served in a Porcelain Cup?

Somehow a paper cup just doesn’t cut it. After traveling around the world tasting coffee in all types of cafés, restaurants, hole-in-the-wall eateries and food carts, we concluded that coffee definitely tastes better in a porcelain cup or mug.

Porcelain cups are better for the environment. In the long run we spend less money using non-disposable porcelain cups.

During our visit to St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Imperial Porcelain Manufacturing Company celebrated its 270th anniversary. They had over 200 porcelain objects on display at the Grotto Pavilion in Catherine Park just outside St. Petersburg Russia.

These are historical and modern porcelains displaying Russia’s traditions and porcelain making skills. Imperial Porcelain Manufacturing Company is the oldest porcelain manufacturer in Russia.

The exhibition was held from July 23 to Sep 30, 2014. These porcelain cups, saucers, teapots and plates were typically used for morning and afternoon tea. Russia was introduced to tea in 1638 by a Mongolian ambassador. According to ThinkRussia.com, coffee was introduced about two decades ago.

If coffee was introduced earlier these could well have been used for coffee. Here are some of the pieces on display:

The Grotto Pavilion has late baroque architecture with columns and windows and doors with ornate carvings. It is located at the Great Pond in Catherine Park. It was built as a place to rest during the hot summer days.
