Combine breakfast and coffee in a coffee smoothie bowl!
As coffee lovers, having a cup of coffee along with whatever food you’re having for breakfast is the preferable way to enjoy the most important meal of the day.
Why not combine the two?
With our cold brew coffee smoothie bowl, you can.
Not only do you get your morning boost in a fast and easy way, but these bowls are also super customizable. You can try adding different toppings, milks and amounts of coffee so you can make it several mornings a week without ever getting bored of it.
What is cold brew coffee?
For these coffee smoothie bowls, we used cold brew coffee made with a Primula Coffee Maker.
Cold brew coffee requires steeping freshly ground coffee in water for at least 12 hours. The coffee is never heated and instead, time is required to brew and extract the coffee.
(Versus iced coffee, which is just hot brewed coffee with added ice to make it cold, or hot coffee left in the fridge to cool.)

What You’ll Need to Make a Cold Brew Coffee Smoothie Bowl
Tools
Ingredients
- ¼ cup cold brew coffee (read our guide to making cold brew coffee here)
- ⅓ cup oatmilk (or your favorite milk or milk alternative)
- 1 avocado
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- ½ tablespoon coffee ground (finely ground)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Various toppings – chia seeds, almond butter, granola, strawberries, chocolate chips
We’ve incorporated both cold brew coffee and coffee grounds for a strong coffee flavor.
Depending on how you grind your coffee beans, the coffee grounds may not fully blend into your smoothie bowl (it’s kind of like having the seeds of berries in berry smoothies) so you can omit the coffee grounds if you prefer.
Just make your cold brew coffee extra concentrated. Instead of a recommended 1 part coffee grounds to 4 parts water, try 1 part coffee grounds to 3 parts water.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Gather all ingredients.
Step 2
Blend all ingredients in a blender.
Step 3
Pour into a bowl and add desired toppings. We added granola, banana slices, strawberries, chia seeds and a drizzle of almond butter.
Tips for Making Your Cold Brew Coffee Smoothie Bowl
- Plan ahead. Cold brew coffee requires at least 12 hours to steep.
- For a stronger coffee flavored bowl (and also if you’re not adding coffee grounds,) make your cold brew coffee extra concentrated by increasing the coffee grounds to water ratio. Try 1 part coffee grounds to 3 parts water.
- Cold brew coffee can be kept in the fridge for about a week so brew enough for however many bowls you plan on making for the week (plus extra to drink during the day!) Read more about brewing cold brew coffee here.
- As you’re planning to brew your cold brew coffee, you can also prep your banana. While you can use room temperature bananas, frozen ones will make your smoothie bowl thicker. Just stick the banana in the freezer, or you can even peel, cut it up and store it in a bag for even faster preparation in the morning.
- If you’d like to turn this bowl into a regular smoothie so you can take it on the go in a cup, use half of the avocado instead of the whole avocado or add a little more milk or cold brew coffee to make it thinner and more watery.
