Overnight oats needs no introduction.
Because of its convenience, ease to make and health benefits (rolled oats are known to be good for your heart, are high in fiber among other positives), I make it all the time. My fridge is frequently stocked with several portioned jars so I can easily grab one throughout the week and eat it straight out of the jar.
In case you haven’t heard of or haven’t made overnight oats yet, it’s basically oatmeal that’s soaked overnight so the oats become chewy and is eaten cold.
As a coffee lover of course I had to find a way to incorporate coffee into overnight oats, so here it is. (I also gave this recipe a little Dalgona coffee twist!)

What You’ll Need to Make Coffee Overnight Oats
Tools
Ingredients
- ⅔ cup rolled oats
- ⅓ cup cold brew coffee
- ⅓ oatmilk (or milk/ milk alternative of choice)
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar (or more depending how sweet you’d like it)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Add rolled oats and milk of choice to a mason jar.
Step 2
Add cold brew coffee. I make a batch of cold brew coffee in my Primula Cold Brew Coffee Maker a day ahead.
You can also use any coffee of choice. I’ve made coffee overnight oats using Green Mountain’s K-cup Breakfast Blend as well.
Step 3
Add chia seeds and brown sugar. Chia seeds absorb liquids so if you prefer a thicker coffee overnight oats, add an additional teaspoon of chia seeds.
Step 4
Stir all ingredients in the mason jar. Put the cover on and store in the fridge for at least 6 hours.
Step 5
In the morning, your coffee overnight oats might look dry so give it a stir before adding toppings like fruit, nuts or additional chia seeds.
Dalgona Coffee Overnight Oats
Just for fun, I added the Dalgona coffee mixture (which is also super easy to make) to the top of my oats. It gives the coffee overnight oats a little extra coffee flavor and sweetness.
Tips for Making Coffee Overnight Oats
- If you prefer creamier overnight oats, mix in ⅓ cup of Greek yogurt. And if you prefer your oats a little thicker, add an extra teaspoon of chia seeds or more oats.
- Do you eat overnight oats cold? Yes, eat it straight out of the jar!
- How long do overnight oats last? I make it on a Sunday night and make sure to eat it within the workweek. Be sure to store in airtight containers like a mason jar.
- How long do overnight oats take to soak? You can actually make it as a midday snack. Make it in the morning and about 4 hours later, the oats will have soaked enough to eat. But overnight (at least 6 hours) allows it to soak to my preferred texture.
