Recently we discovered a series of videos called Reactions by the American Chemical Society. One that caught our attention was titled “Why Does Coffee Make You Poop?” Is that true? Well, coffee does have a “laxative effect” for some coffee drinkers.

The Royal Society of Chemistry write-up, Chemistry in Every Cup, states that the chlorogenic acids (CGAs) found in coffee are absorbed in the small intestine and that the liver solubilises the compounds, preparing them for excretion via the kidneys. In other words, CGAs help the stomach get rid of waste into the intestines.
Only 3/10 people experience the laxative effects from coffee. Are you one of them? We consider it lucky if you are one. If you have suffered from constipation, you’ll know what we mean.
