I love cinnamon rolls. What’s not to love about warm, buttery dough with cinnamon and sugar?
I turned this breakfast treat into a latte by brewing espresso and mixing it with brown sugar and vanilla syrup.
Then I topped it with whipped cream to give the cinnamon roll its frosting (which apparently, by the way, when I was in Denmark and Sweden, cinnamon rolls aren’t usually eaten with frosting, it’s more of a North American thing!)
Here’s how you can make it at home too.
Cinnamon Roll Latte Ingredients
- ¼ cup espresso (I used Stumptown French Roast)
- ⅛ tsp ground cinnamon (or cinnamon syrup)
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla syrup
- 1 cup milk
- Toppings: Whipped cream, ground cinnamon (optional)
Tips for Making a Cinnamon Roll Latte
Espresso
Use your espresso machine to make two shots of espresso for this latte recipe.
If you don’t have an espresso machine, don’t worry! You can still make this latte. Read our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine.
I use a moka pot to brew a concentrated, espresso-like coffee. It’s so easy to use, small and compact and inexpensive.
Cinnamon
If you’ve ever tried adding cinnamon to coffee, you know it doesn’t mix very well. You’ll usually end up with clumps of cinnamon.
There are 2 ways we can solve this to add cinnamon to coffee:
- If you have cinnamon syrup, you can use that or purchase it on Amazon.
- Or the second method, which I use here. I simply add ground cinnamon to coffee grounds before brewing and it gives the coffee a delicious cinnamon flavor.
Vanilla Syrup
I used Monin Vanilla Syrup.
I start with a ½ tablespoon of vanilla syrup and if you feel you prefer your latte a little sweetener, you can add more.
You can also make a vanilla simple syrup at home. All you need is equal parts water and sugar. Put this in a saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Milk
I made my latte dairy free by using oat milk.
Use your choice of milk whether it’s skim, whole or a plant based alternative.
Toppings
I topped the latte with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon. This is optional.
