Are there certain spices you associate with Christmas?
I took some of those spices and put them into a coffee drink I call a Christmas Coffee Blend.
I don’t recommend just mixing most ground spices into coffee as they tend to not dissolve very well. Instead, we’ll mix the spices into the coffee grounds. No more clumpy coffee!
This is the coffee I look forward to making every Christmas morning. Here’s how to make it.
Christmas Coffee Blend Ingredients
- ¼ cup espresso (or ½ cup coffee)
- ⅛ tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp ground cloves
- ⅛ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp white chocolate sauce
- 1 cup milk
- Whipped cream
- Christmas sprinkles
Tips for Making Christmas Coffee Blend
Coffee
I used a stove top moka pot to brew coffee. Using a moka pot yields a concentrated, espresso like coffee.
You can use any brewing method you prefer. For a really fast option, consider using a Keurig or drip coffee maker.
Christmas Spice Blend
I used ground cinnamon, cloves and ginger.
If you’ve ever tried mixing spices like cinnamon into coffee, you’ll notice it doesn’t dissolve. You’re left with clumps of spices at the bottom of your mug or you end up drinking a whole clump. It’s definitely not something you want to do when you take the first sip of coffee.
To solve this, I mix the spices I want to taste in my coffee with the coffee grounds, then brew this mixture. The result is a flavorful coffee, without the clumps.
If there are other spices that you like the taste of and associate with Christmas, feel free to use those too.
I used equal amounts of each, so whichever other spices you want, add the same amount. You can also play around with different combinations.
White Chocolate Sauce
I used Torani white chocolate sauce.
I’ve used Torani’s line of sauces for most of my coffee recipes. I like how they mix well with both hot and cold coffee. Plus, it’s so versatile and can be used for drizzling on top of the drinks and also for desserts.
Milk
I used almond milk.
Use your milk of preference. I went the dairy free route for this Christmas coffee blend.
I recommend steaming the milk before pouring it into the coffee so the coffee will stay warm. You can steam milk easily using a milk frother. Most electric milk frothers have a steaming option so it’s worth having in your kitchen to make all sorts of coffee drinks.
Toppings
I used store bought whipped cream and Christmas themed sprinkles.
I chose to use store bought whipped cream this time. If you prefer making yours at home, all you need to do is use heavy cream. Mix it on medium high speed until stiff peaks form.
When you make your own at home, you can add a little vanilla syrup to flavor it. Or chose not to add any extra flavoring or sugar.
For the Christmas themed sprinkles. I used red, green and white ones where the green sprinkles are tiny Christmas trees. Feel free to use your Christmas sprinkles of choice.
