Things have changed in the coffee world in recent years – and we’re not talking about just coffee beans. We’re talking about coffee grinders. Coffee grinders aren’t the preserve of the coffee snobs anymore. Coffee grinders of all sizes, prices, and designs are aplenty. The choice has never been so confusing.
There’s manual and automatic, burr and blade, flat blade burr and conical burr. Before you learn the difference between these coffee grinders, the next inventor may have a new thing featured on Kickstarter already.
For over 10 years the Capresso 560.01 Infinity Burr Grinder has been one of the top sellers in the burr coffee grinder category. In fact, if you go on Amazon.com, you’ll find it has almost 4,000 reviews. It has stood the test of time!
Recently, we put the Capresso 560.01 Infinity Burr Grinder to the test.
Here’s what we like about the burr coffee grinder
- it’s automatic, meaning no manual hard work involved like the manual grinder
- suitable when we have more than two coffee drinkers at one time (imagine using the manual grinder when friends come over for coffee!)
- a choice of extra-fine, fine, medium and coarse grind settings, and within each of these categories, for example in the medium category there are four more clearly marked settings (see photo)
- it’s very quiet compared to the blade grinder we had
- a good size bean container and ground container
- easy to assemble and easy to use
- compact and beautiful design in black, silver, and stainless steel
- all parts are removable for easy cleaning
- good price compared to most burr grinders of the same category
The best feature of the Capresso 560.01 Infinity Burr Grinder is the grind selections. For French press and for the French press travel mug we use coarse grind settings. Within the coarse grind setting, we can choose the four levels of coarseness.
For example, we are going to brew a cup of coffee with a French press. To do this, we will set the Capresso to the Coarse setting on the far right. Within this setting, we can choose from four levels of coarseness. Additionally, to brew with a Moka pot, we’d choose the Extra Fine setting. To change the grind setting, all we need to do is turn the black dot on the bean container to the desired coarseness level.
One minor setback
- some coffee beans and ground coffee were trapped inside the grinding chamber. Unless we removed the grinding chamber and cleaned it thoroughly after every use, it’d be impossible to have 100% freshly ground coffee. While it is relatively easy to clean the grinding chamber with a brush, we found it a bit messy when cleaning.
The Capresso 560.01 Infinity Burr Grinder comes with a scoop and a tiny brush. Overall, we like this sleek machine because it easy to use and preserves the flavor and aroma of the coffee beans. It is one of the best automatic conical burr grinders in the less than $100 category.
