The pairing of coffee and little sweet things is just heavenly. The Maison Kayser on 1294 Third Avenue between 74th and 75th Streets set the trend for this perfect combination in New York City.
Décor and ambience
French baker Eric Kayser opened his first New York bakery, pastries and coffee place on Third Avenue in August 2012. Maison Kayser has two doors. The left door leads you to a huge display of pastries and cakes for take-out orders. The right door leads to the 100-seat dining area. The coffee counter is in between both connecting rooms.
The barista and waiters wear black and white striped shirts, black aprons and black pants – if you have been to Venice those outfits may remind you of your gondola ride.

Coffee: Type, price and taste
Besides the French breads and pastries, the main attraction in Maison Kayser is Café Gourmand. Café Gourmand is a Parisian Signature coffee and mini desserts special for $9. You get three mini desserts with either an American coffee, espresso or cappuccino.
The selection of mini desserts changes daily. They are pre-selected by the chef for the day, which means you can’t choose what you want. But there is always a type of miniature tart and a financier. No need to stare at the menu deciding on what you should order. Save the headache and decision to the chef.
According to The Guardian, “gourmand” is an artistic array of miniature puddings, generally a set of three. Café gourmand came about because after the heavy entrée there is really not much room for huge dessert.
These bite-sized miniatures allow you to eat three types of dessert without feeling guilty.
