Cafe Bombon is a coffee drink originating from Spain.
It’s two ingredients – espresso and sweetened condensed milk. When put together, it forms a layered look as the sweetened condensed milk holds the espresso up without mixing when poured in like milk does.
The coffee drink usually consists of 1 part espresso to 1 part sweetened condensed milk. So you can imagine, it’s a very sweet coffee drink.
Try the Classic Cafe Bombon, but also try my Frothy Cafe Bombon – a version that is less sweet, but still has a cool layered look.
Enjoy making both!
Cafe Bombon Ingredients
Classic Cafe Bombon
- ¼ cup espresso
- ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
Frothy Cafe Bombon
- ¼ cup espresso
- 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
- ½ cup milk
Tips for Making Cafe Bombon
Espresso
I used a moka pot to brew coffee.
If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, I recommend using a moka pot. It’s easy to use, convenient and an inexpensive alternative to an espresso machine.
The result of brewing with a moka pot is a concentrated, espresso-like coffee. So it does the job at home. Check out our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine for other ideas to make espresso at home.
Sweetened Condensed Milk
I used a store bought sweetened condensed milk from a can. You can also find it on Amazon.
Milk
For the Froth Cafe Bombon, you’ll need milk. I used oat milk, but you can use whole milk, skim milk or any of your preferred milk alternatives.
We’ll pour it into a frother and froth it before adding to the coffee, so it’s also ideal if you have a milk frother on hand at home.
How to Make Cafe Bombon
- Brew espresso. I used a moka pot.
- Add sweetened condensed milk to a mug.
- Pour espresso on top of sweetened condensed milk.
- For the Frothy Cafe Bombon, froth milk in a milk frother and pour the milk in the espresso. Top with foamed milk.
