Avocado Coffee (An Indonesian Coffee Recipe)

I encountered avocado coffee while spending a few weeks in Indonesia. This is my version of it so you can make it at home.

Avocado coffee, also known as es alpukat, is a creamy and delicious coffee drink.

It consists of a ripe avocado, espresso, milk and sweetened condensed milk. I would’ve never thought about putting avocado and coffee together, but trust me, it works. It’s usually very sweet due to the sweetened condensed milk.

But as with making coffee at home, you’re in control. Start with just a little sweetened condensed milk and work your way up.

Enjoy!

Avocado Coffee Ingredients

Tips for Making Avocado Coffee

Espresso

I used a moka pot to brew coffee.

I recommend using a moka pot for concentrated, espresso like coffee if you do not have an espresso machine at home. Check out our guide to brewing espresso without an espresso machine – you can still make espresso based coffee drinks!

Avocado

You want to make sure the avocado is ripe. We’ll be blending the avocado and a ripe one will result in a creamy drink. (Versus an unripe, hard avocado won’t taste as creamy!)

Milk

I chose almond milk for this recipe. Feel free to use whichever milk you prefer. It will taste fine either way.

Sweetened Condensed Milk

This is what makes the avocado coffee taste so delicious and sweet. I suggest starting with 1 tablespoon of sweet condensed milk and work your way up. Taste after blending and if you prefer it sweeter, add more.

Chocolate Sauce

I used Torani Chocolate Sauce

This is an optional step but I wanted to make the coffee look good instead of just a green liquid. I used the chocolate sauce and squeezed some along the inside of a glass to create the lines.

When pouring the blended avocado coffee inside, it remains separate, creating a cool design. You can also try mixing in some chocolate sauce or cocoa powder for a chocolate avocado coffee.
