Coffee plays a huge part in daily life in Iceland. Great cafes are everywhere in the city of Reykjavik. You can even find one inside the Hellisheiði Power Plant located 20 minutes drive from Reykjavík on Route 1 towards east and Hveragerdi. Cafe Energy is the last stop for the Golden Circle Tour in Iceland from Reykjavik. This cafe is a welcoming addition to a day tour filled with nature and history.
Décor and ambience
The coffee counter is located below the large center stairs of the building. Tables and seats are on the right side of the building and bar tables in front of the coffee counter for those who prefer to stand and drink coffee.
Coffee: Type, price and taste
Iceland did not disappoint us at all with their coffee. Even in a so-called simple museum coffee shop the coffee is presented with the utmost care. The kaffi bolli we had was 400 Krona ($3.50) and the Frönsk súkkulaðikaka (French chocolate cake) was 700 Krona ($6.19).
We like the way the coffee and dessert were served on a white plate cum cup holder.
How to get there
Hellisheiði Power Plant is one of the stops during the Golden Circle Tour in Iceland. It takes about 20 min. drive from Reykjavík on Route 1.
