Once you’ve brewed a cup of espresso, do you just pour it into a regular mug?
A single shot of espresso is typically one ounce and a double shot is two ounces. So there’s a lot of space left when putting a single or double shot of espresso into a standard 8 to 10 ounce mug. This is why you need an espresso cup aka, a demitasse cup…
What is a demitasse cup?
Demitasse cups are cups used for espresso. The word demitasse is a French word for half cup. Each demitasse cup holds about two to three ounces of coffee.
These small coffee cups are around two to two and a half inches in height. Some demitasse cups come with saucers and traditionally, demitasse cups are white and made of ceramic or porcelain. But you can also find glass, stainless steel and different designs and all sorts of colors on the market today.
